Situated in South America, Venezuela has beaches on both the Caribbean and North Atlantic coasts. Surrounding countries are Columbia, Guyana, and Brazil. Venezuela is well known for beautiful vistas and fantastic beaches. The land is very diverse, ranging from low coastal areas to the peaks of the Andes Mountains.
The Caribbean coast of Venezuela offers the best beaches. Many tourists come here for relaxing tropical vacations. Los Roques are islands off the Caribbean coast that are a diver’s paradise with exotic fish and coral reefs. The central area also offers beaches and is where the larger cities are located. The capital, Caracas, is one of South America’s most suburban cities. It is very trendy and hip with an old world charm and wonderful colonial buildings.
Tourists also flock to the highland area, including the Andes, of Venezuela. Merida, at the bottom of the Andes, is a quaint village. There are many guides for outdoor sports here such as hiking and climbing. Angel Falls is located in the Guiana Highlands. The Canaima National Park has the world’s steepest waterfall.
Coro is a historic Venezuelan village. It was the colonial capital. The village has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Food is plentiful in Venezuela. Local specialties include Empanadas, Avepa, and Perros Calientes. You will find wonderful cafes throughout the country offering native food. The local beer, Polar Beer, contains more water than the beer you are probably used to. Chicha Andina is a soda made from pineapple and corn flour.
You must carry identity papers with you at all times. Military checkpoints are on most roads. Travel is best done by bus, rental car, and taxi. There are no trains.
The major airport is in the Vargas State thirty minutes from Caracas. The Simon Bolivar International Airport is locally known as Maiquetia. Buses and taxis are readily available to transport you to the city. Many non-stop flights arrive daily from England and America.
